Partnering with NIO Cocktails

NIO Cocktails are a premium ready made cocktails brand, offering a wide variety of cocktail classics including gin, vodka, whiskey, and tequila-based beverages to enjoy at home. Last year, they identified that their homepage, bundle product pages, and blogs were generating the majority of their organic traffic, but not necessarily the most conversions. With that in mind, they sought our digital PR support to enhance their backlink profile and drive greater value to the site. 

The Challenge

Having previously worked with NIO Cocktails on a project basis, we wanted to pick up where we left off - improving the technical aspects of the site, whilst also enhancing the brand’s backlink profile through a strategic digital PR campaign that encompassed content related to the target pages. 

With that in mind, we set out to:

  • Identify the areas of the website with the most potential for organic growth and ROI
  • Ensure competitors were unable to get ahead in referring domains
  • Deliver a long-term digital PR strategy to gradually grow NIO Cocktail’s backlink profile

Our Strategy

As part of the strategy, we carried out an opportunity analysis to identify where the build links. By analysing the areas with the most potential for organic growth and ROI, we were then able to identify the product listing pages and collections to focus on.

Following this, we:

  • Produced content related to the target pages, making it logical for journalists to link back
  • Analysed and prioritised competitor backlink gaps
  • Targeted new, high-quality domains not yet secured by competitors
  • Created a target list of new domains to grow their backlink profile

The Results

Giving us creative freedom to build backlinks and raise awareness for their innovative cocktails, we surpassed our 2023 link target by 164%. 23 were pointed toward target product pages we were aiming to improve, and 18 were to collection pages. The remaining were on the homepage.

Further results included: 

  • An 84% rise in unique referring domains comparing March to June
  • NIO Cocktails secure more referring domains compared to key competitors
  • Greater Tier 1 (DR 70+) and Tier 2 (DR 50-70) links compared to competitors
  • 616 keywords ranking in positions 1-5 - a 52% YoY rise 
  • A 372% growth in visibility over the past year
